Environment

Andrea's stance on the environment
Andrea Horwath offers a plan to make every Ontarian an environmentalist by providing a province-wide green energy loan program, supporting environmental cooperatives and protecting communities through anti-SLAPP legislation.

McGuinty/Tory stance on the environment
Both McGuinty and Tory prefer to give taxpayers' dollars to the financially risky nuclear industry.
They both stand by as polluters threaten communities and undermine environmental justice.

New Jobs

Andrea’s stance on creating new jobs
Andrea will make an immediate and significant investment in municipal public transit while establishing Ontario as a hub for advanced light rail production and research and development – creating thousands of sustainable jobs in the manufacturing sector and restoring Ontario’s place as Canada’s export leader.

McGuinty/Tory’s stance on creating jobs
Dalton McGuinty promises investment in public transit – but is still dithering on delivery. Meanwhile, the McGuinty government voted against the NDP’s “Buy Ontario” bill that would have ensured our tax dollars support Ontario jobs. The McGuinty government is looking at allowing private, for-profit companies operate and maintain light rail lines – undermining collective agreements. And John Tory’s right behind him.

Good Jobs

Andrea’s stance on good jobs
Working together, Ontarians can create and sustain high value-added manufacturing and forestry jobs. People, in growing numbers, trapped in low-waged, low benefit jobs need a government that will stand up for them: for their right to form a union, to legislate and enforce a living wage, and to protect their rights on the job.

McGuinty/Tory’s stance on good jobs
Dalton McGuinty has watched as good union jobs have vanished and wages have stagnated. He said Ontario’s economy was booming and that problems could be ignored. He even gave himself a $40,000 raise while Ontarians struggle below the poverty line.

Northern Jobs

Andrea Horwath fights for Northern jobs
Andrea will help Northerners shape their economic future. Northern Ontarians must have control over their electricity system, resource revenues and forests so they can use these tools to create jobs in value-added forestry, transit production and other sectors.

McGuinty and Tory status quo on
Northern jobs

Dalton McGuinty and John Tory have failed to act while Northern Ontario has lost thousands of jobs. Their commitment to an electricity market has devastated the North – causing the loss of 40,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Rural Ontario

Andrea’s stance on rural Ontario
Andrea Horwath will fight for programs to help young farmers get started, keep family farms running and make practicing environmental stewardship affordable.

McGuinty/Tory’s stance on rural Ontario
Dalton McGuinty has loaded new costs on Ontario farmers and refuses to act despite more and more people leave farming.

Education

Andrea's stance on education
Andrea Horwath endorses an education system that provides every student with an excellent education whether they speak English as a second language, have special education needs or are struggling with the high-cost of post-secondary education.

McGuinty and Tory's position on education
Students and their families are left struggling.  Long-waiting lists for special education, lack of ESL teachers and some of the highest tuition fees in the country make learning difficult and sometimes impossible.

Health Care

Andrea's stance on health care
Privatizating and de-listing health services costs more in the long-run and leaves working people struggling to pay. OHIP should cover all services that keep Ontarians healthy – from dental care to eye exams to physiotherapy services. Andrea will fight for home care and long-term care can relieve pressure on our overcrowded hospitals but not when private business is skimming big profits off limited funds.

McGuinty and Tory's stance on health care
On Dalton McGuinty’s watch over 30 private, for-profit P3 hospitals haven been built, necessary medical services de-listed from OHIP and private health firms are making big bucks on the backs of Ontarians – and John Tory’s backed him every step of the way.
