FOUR MONTHS, EIGHT PAGES, NO CONCLUSIONS - NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR HAMILTON EAST, SAYS HORWATH

QUEEN’S PARK – Hamilton East MPP Andrea Horwath was ejected from the Legislature today after expressing outrage over the McGuinty government’s lack of answers on her community’s soot problem.

Environment Minister Laurel Broten finally released a long-awaited report on the deluge of soot that rained down on Hamilton East in July and as recently as last Friday.

“Four months, eight pages, no answers – that’s not good enough for Hamilton East,” said an irate Horwath after reading Broten’s vacuous and inconclusive report that offers no explanation, relief nor solutions to the residents’ plight.

“Being forced to wait this long was already unacceptable,” said Horwath.  “But waiting this long for nothing is beyond insulting to Hamilton residents, who suffered the expense and damage to their health caused by the carbon emissions and are demanding action from the McGuinty Liberals,” said Horwath.

“I’ve been pushing for answers and challenging the McGuinty Liberals to come clean on the soot problem since the summer.  If this is the best they can do, I’m here to say it’s not good enough and those affected have a right to feel angry and betrayed,” Horwath said.

Horwath said the McGuinty Liberals shirks its environmental protection responsibilities.

“Not a single Liberal member stood up for residents when it counted and that fact can’t be masked by a bogus report.  My constituents don’t want rhetoric – they want restitution. They want accountability and they want action,” said Horwath.
