How Can I Help?
These four simple words sum up my role as MPP and the reason for my constituency office at 720 Main Street East.
Both the Hamilton East and Toronto offices exist to serve you. My staff and I try our level best to solve every issue, problem and concern affecting the residents of Hamilton East relating to provincial programs and services. Are we always successful, or does success come as quickly as it should? You can be assured that every effort is made to achieve a positive outcome on your behalf.
Sometimes it’s as simple as addressing your query. Other times it’s a question of cutting through government red tape. Then, too, there are the very deep and complex situations that could take literally years to resolve.
I am responsible for representing you at Queen’s Park and helping you here at home and it is my privilege to serve you. As a lifelong Hamilton resident, I feel very much a part of this great city.
Hamilton East is a community of many faces. Staunchly diverse and proud Ontarians we are!
But our riding has been hit with more than its share of challenges lately. Soot rained on people’s homes and properties this summer. Floods ravaged businesses and basements. Our seniors sweltered in nursing homes during July’s brutal heat wave because there is no legislation requiring air-cooling standards on those dangerously hot days.
I was disappointed in the McGuinty Government’s lack of response to my calls for action on all of the above.
High and volatile gasoline prices, property taxes and other basic bills hit all families harder, especially those who struggle with poverty, unemployment, disability and illness. Parents continue to wait for the treatment that was promised their autistic children.
Issues like violence against women, children with special needs, education funding, child welfare, health care and mental health require greater attention. All these issues have an impact on our community and concern matters of provincial interest that I give voice to as your MPP in the Ontario Legislature. This is a role I take very seriously and with great pride.
It is important that I hear from you and have my staff take detailed notes on my behalf. A newly installed computer system will streamline our operations.
